We had sunshine today. Nice sunset.

I got to digging around the internet. Carl Sagan. Remember him? And his baloney detector kit? From his hook "The Demon-Haunted World"?

"Sagan presents a set of tools for skeptical thinking which he calls the "baloney detection kit".[2]:210[3] Skeptical thinking consists both of constructing a reasoned argument and recognizing a fallacious or fraudulent one. In order to identify a fallacious argument, Sagan suggests employing such tools as independent confirmation of facts, debate, development of different hypotheses, quantification, the use of Occam's razor, and the possibility of falsification. Sagan's "baloney detection kit" also provides tools for detecting "the most common fallacies of logic and rhetoric", such as argument from authority and statistics of small numbers. Through these tools, Sagan argues the benefits of a critical mind and the self-correcting nature of science can take place."

This is from the book and it kinda worries me -

"I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness."

Le sigh...

Critical thinking is ebbing away. You've heard the phrase, "if you dont stand for anything you'll fall for everything?". That never made sense to me. Standing for something that isnt true isnt helpful. Far more accurate to say "if you dont critically examine everything - you'll fall for anything."

In related news ---
I hear about the KPop band fans being just insane vicious d*cks to fans of other KPop bands. (Black ocean) Got to thinking that yes, our pop icons have insane fans, our sport teams fans and just when the Hell did it become culturally acceptable to be d*cks to the other team and their fans?? You can be passionately supportive of your team. You've no right to be d*cks to anyone who is not a fan of what you are a fan of. You have no right to be a d*cks to fellow fans who you think arent fanning /the right way/. You've no right to be d*cks PERIOD. But we see it now from the pro sports all the way to neighborhood Little League. From twitter to gamers to freaking K POP! Cant blame babyhands for kPop insanity.

WTF humanity???!
