Share and share the like

First, pick a website from your Favorites folder and share.

This is the newest addition to mine.
Not that I wanted to keep that specific page, but the site has a search box you can type in the name of a town and get ancestry info, which I know some of you might be interested in. And there's a link to a UK version. I'm liking poking around aka wasting my BRAIN TIME. ;)

Second, pick a LJ community or person that your other friends may not be watching and maybe they should.

For me that's Movies In 15 Minutes. http://community.livejournal.com/m15m/ THE funniest movie reviews ever. Hurry and you can catch the wonderful V for Vendetta one. OMG so funny and I haven't seen the movie. I really want to get her book. :>

Need incense? I've got a package of Airs Aroma Wands in the Shaman scent that I've had for YEARS in an open bag and it /still/ stinks. Err, smells. Good stuff. www.airsworld.com if you can't find them locally. The Shaman scent is a strong spicy 'masculine' scent, btw.

This one I don't have an answer for yet. If you could be a patron saint of something - what would it be? Like if you were the patron saint of sunflowers people would see them and think of you. If they felt sunflowers cheered them up they might call on you when they were feeling down. That kind of a thing. If they needed a quick VanGogh fix.

A poem that you have memorized. Hopefully one you like. Mark, at work today, recited a Robert Frost poem. You know, the one with "The woods are lovely dark and deep"? The only poem I have memorized that isn't a song is Jabberwocky from Alice in Wonderland. Actually it is book two, Through the Looking Glass but some of you might not have gotten that right off. Most of the way down the page on this site. http://www.sabian.org/Alice/lgchap01.htm
In school my English teacher assigned us to memorize and recite a poem. I immediately put my hand up and asked if I could do it now. Do you know, he had the chops to interrupt me and not accept it because I didn't know how to pronounce the words? As if people chatter on about 'slithy toves' out 'gimbling' in the garden on a day to day basis. I was frumious, to say the least. The manxome man.

Oh yes, and can you recommend a CD?

Fun with Mom

Don't we just love our mothers?

Me, "Hi, Mom. Listen I can come up in 2 weeks and stay with Gran while you and Dad have a mini-vacation for the weekend."

Mom, "That's great dear!"

Me, "I'll have to rent a car though, because my car needs work. It's acting up."

Mom, "Rent a car? What a shame. Oh, your cousin is flying in from California next week before she starts her new job. She's not going to be making any more trips after this so if you want to see her...you're going to have come down."

Me, slowly, "Next week. Um, yeah I guess I can rent a car for that too."

Mom, "Oh! And it's your Gran's birthday in three weeks! She's always asking when you're coming back to see her again. The whole family will be here for her party."

Me, "..."

THREE weeks of renting a car?? I know it isn't her fault or planning to have this all happen at once. My car has needed work for awhile and it just decided to be extra freaky last week. But throwing down the Family Guilt card and the Gran Death card? - is her.
You may have trouble seeing the cards, but I am aware of them. Like "she's always asking when you're coming back to see her again" is the Gran Death card that actually means "Her memory is fading and she's losing track of time. Which you know means that she won't be around much longer and if you don't come down here and spend as much time as you can with her you'll regret it forever and she'll be sad in her last days and you'll carry that guilt around for the rest of your life! Don't worry, I'll remind you often."

Do you have layered conversations like this with your family?

I used to have the most wonderful layered conversations with my friend Dave-Man. We could be at a party, conversing with different people and still comment on the conversations, discuss the conversations and crack jokes about them with each other - all at the same time. With no one else the wiser until we couldn't keep a strait face. Choice of words, inflection and the meaningful pauses. I really miss my Dave-man.

Sidenote: After catching some of the movie 2001 again on TV I just have to wonder why does futuristic furniture look more like the swinging 60s than the future? Why don't we have that furniture? Where is my shiny, crayon-colored, bent-plastic furniture? Hmm? Hmm?

Another sidenote: I think I've been awake too long again. When I edit my posts does it spam your friend list? It is supposed to be beastly hot/humid here this week. I'm not looking forward to leaving my cats inside without a fan while I am down humoring my family (and seeing my cousin for a few hours.)
